It’s been another week of working from home due to the coronavirus and the I-unit at FNC has been keeping busy. In no particular order, here are just a few are the stories behind the headlines found by our team…
ALEX DIAZ and CYD UPSON both spoke with those on the frontlines of fighting the Pandemic in the NYC area and the challenges hospitals and healthcare workers are facing…
“Never in my nursing career have we (I) not been able to give a [patient] an answer as to what comes next until now,” said the healthcare pro. “I think we all believed that we were better prepared for an event like this, but the reality has been sobering.”
“Things are pretty severe. I haven’t seen anything like this before. It’s brand new and we’re still trying to figure out how to treat it, so there are no ‘best practices’ in place. Things are changing daily and weekly,”
REBECCA KESTEN reported on efforts being made by Italian engineers to help care for the sick, designing makeshift CPAP masks from snorkels…
CRISTINA CORBIN spoke with expecting moms who are due to give birth during the pandemic…
“When the outbreak first happened, I was 29 weeks pregnant and my doctor said, ‘This is no worse than the flu. You are fine as long as you wash your hands,’” she said. “But that wasn’t the guidance I got last week when my doctor told me to avoid leaving the house under all circumstances, even for groceries.”
